Two men charged in connection to $900,000 drug conspiracy...

Two men were charged today with conspiring to import almost $900,000 of drugs to the Island.Dennis A. Wright, 27, and Keneth Butterfield, 32, were both charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and cannabis to Bermuda between a time unknown and November 2, 2008.The pair allegedly plotted to bring more than eight kilograms of cannabis and 180 grams of cocaine to the Island.

Two men were charged today with conspiring to import almost $900,000 of drugs to the Island.

Dennis A. Wright, 27, and Keneth Butterfield, 32, were both charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and cannabis to Bermuda between a time unknown and November 2, 2008.

The pair allegedly plotted to bring more than eight kilograms of cannabis and 180 grams of cocaine to the Island.

At least one more person is expected to be brought to court in relation to the offences.

Because the case in indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court, neither man was asked to make a plea.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Wright and Butterfield under $50,000 bail each, with a surety of the same amount. They are expected to appear again in Magistrates' Court on November 12.

While another man bailed on conspiracy to import cannabis charge

A 25-year-old was charged with conspiracy to import almost a kilogram of cannabis to the Island.

Lionel Thomas was charged yesterday with conspiring to import drugs to Bermuda sometime before November 13, 2008. Because the charges are indictable, he was not asked to enter a plea.

Thomas is believed to have plotted to import 926 grams of cannabis, worth as much as $92,600, into the Island.

A second person is expected to be brought before the court in connection with the charges.

Thomas, represented in Magistrates' Court by lawyer Mark Pettingill, was released on $25,000 bail with a surety of the same amount.

He is due to return to court for mention on November 12.
