In their first outing of the school year, the students visited Paget Island where they took part in various games to build team spirit.

The day, labelled as the school's first Co-operative Spirit Day, was the brainchild of school counsellor Ms Pam Maybury. It was aimed at developing trust and co-operation among students in an adventurous way from the beginning of the school year.

"Kids need to have a way to express themselves and work together,'' said St.

David's Primary principal Mr. Edward Wright who, along with his staff, fully endorsed the idea.

He noted that after the day -- which included scaling walls, walking a tightrope, and "skydiving'' under the guidance of Police officers from the Outward Bound programme -- brought out the best in all of the students.

"We saw kids doing things that we could not believe they could do,'' Mr.

Wright said. "We've definitely seen a difference in children, a new confidence in them. "For some it was the only organised opportunity to do real things that are risky, but safe. Kids were also looking out for kids.'' The school will try to make the event an annual one, he added.
