Beachfest celebrations to move to Snorkel Park

Chewstick Foundation executive director Gavin Smith

Chewstick will break with tradition by moving the annual Beachfest celebrations to Snorkel Park instead of Horseshoe Bay Beach this year.Chewstick Foundation executive director Gavin Smith said a lack of funding was the main reason behind the move. The eighth annual event will take place next Thursday from 12pm until 3am at the Dockyard site.Mr Smith said: “We definitely don’t expect everyone to make the move to Snorkel Park this year largely because the tradition of going to Horseshoe Bay was there before Beachfest.“But we do hope and intend to see a good turn out this year.“We’re anticipating it being a great event, full of the things that Beachfest is known for and urging to people to support the move,” he said.He noted that the severe funding gap through lack of sponsorship meant that the shortfall would have to be made up through revenue generated on the day — a risk that Chewstick simply could not take. The charity will charge $10 admission to the traditionally free event for people who attend during the day; admission after 7pm is $20.On offer are all the “fun and exciting activities and entertainment” including volleyball, wacky races and tug-o-war.Meanwhile, DIA, Rivah, Uzimon, Crazy Wednesdays, The Ukeladies and Cami Cam are among those scheduled to perform. For more information visit www.bermudabeachfest.com or call 292-2439.
