Loses all licences for impaired driving
for driving under the influence of alcohol.
David Melvin, 35, of Alexandria Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Melvin was stopped by Police at 1 a.m. on June 14 on the causeway in St.
George's after they observed the way he was driving, Police prosecutor Sgt.
Rex Osborne said.
Melvin admitted he had been drinking alcohol and a subsequent breathalyser test showed he had 137 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
But Melvin's lawyer Marc Telemaque said his previous good record should be considered. He also noted that Melvin was self-employed and had to frequently travel from his home to the city of Hamilton for business.
However, Mr. Francis, recalling recent controversy, said: "Things being the way they are you know what I have to do.'' He ordered Melvin to pay a $400 fine and disqualified him from driving all motor vehicles for a year.
