Crash driver fined and banned
A Southampton man involved in a traffic collision while impaired was fined in Magistrates’ Court.Freemont Swan, 29, admitted leaving the scene of the accident, which occurred around 12.18am last Thursday.Crown counsel Auralee Cassidy said Swan was driving his car along Somerset Road, in Sandys, when it swerved across the middle line and into a car travelling in the opposite direction.Officers found one driver injured and the other missing when they arrived on the scene.A short while later, Swan went to the Somerset Police Station and admitted he was involved in a collision.Officers noticed he smelled of alcohol and asked if he had been drinking.Swan responded: “Yes, I had two Guinness. Come on man, I gave up myself.”Swan agreed to a breath test. It revealed he had 135mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, above the legal limit of 80mg.He pleaded guilty to impaired driving in court and also to driving without a licence and leaving the scene of an accident.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Swan $800 for driving while impaired, and $200 and $100 for leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a licence respectively.Mr Tokunbo also banned Swan from driving all vehicles for a period of 12 months.
