The "oohs" and "aahs" of sporting spectators were in abundance at Wellington Oval over the weekend - but they weren't for footballing or cricketing exploits.

Instead, it was daredevil stunts and thrilling bike racing which had all who attended the first-ever Bermuda Motocross Open agog with amazement and delight.

Witnessing some of the world's best motocross exponents strutting their speed and stunts on local soil for the first time ever, patrons remained rapt over the two days of competition and showmanship, sponsored by Bluegrass Management who put on the Monster Trucks spectacle earlier this year.

Among those giving Bermudians their first close-up taste of international motocross were American Kyle Lewis who won the Pro 250cc and Canadians Benoit Milot and Richard Telchat who emerged as freestyle champion and ATV (all-terrain vehicle) racing champion respectively.

Canada's Kris Garwasiak and Ulrich Frei of Switzerland also had fans going wild with their airborne twists and turns.
