Caslin makes his mark at IOD Worlds

By Stephen WrightYoung sailor Rory Caslin was the top Bermudian finisher in the IOD World Championships off Hawke’s Bay in Napier, New Zealand.Caslin sailed consistently throughout the regatta with six top 20 finishes, placing 45th in the 210-boat fleet.His best finish was a third place in the 65-boat flight in Race Seven.Bermuda were represented in Napier by five sailors from the Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association (BODA).Makai Joell finished in 141st, followed by Antonio Bailey in 143rd, Michael Barit in 150th and Ceci Wolmann in 157th.Due to light winds and strong currents, the final day of racing on Monday was cancelled.The regatta was won by Kimberly Lim, of Singapore, followed by 2011 Bermuda Junior Gold Cup visitor, Bart Lambriex of the Netherlands and Peru’s Javier Arribas who finished third.The BODA sailors’ next major overseas regatta will be the IODA South American Championships in March in Argentina.The final qualifier for this event will held locally on Sunday, January 22.
