Hospital resumes biopsies with 3D mammography machine
King Edward VII Memorial Hospital has resumed biopsies with its new 3D mammography machine.
Upgrades to the hospital’s GE Pristina 3D mammography unit meant the procedures were on hold until staff got fully trained.
The first patient yesterday [WEDNESDAY] was a 54-year-old woman who said she was pleased to have the procedure on state-of-the-art equipment.
The woman, who was not named in the Bermuda Hospitals Board press release on the service, added: “It was great. The staff were wonderful, they fully explained the procedure and I didn’t feel a thing.”
Daniel Stovell, chief of radiology, said: “In diagnostic imaging, image clarity is what we get excited about.
“The clearer the image, the better our ability to detect, diagnose and treat any abnormalities.”
Bermuda Hospitals Board is the only provider of 3D stereotactic breast biopsy in Bermuda.
