‘Daddy and I Explore’ books converted into Braille

A children’s book series created by a Bermudian environmentalist can now be enjoyed by visually impaired youngsters.A Braille version of the “Daddy and I Explore...” series by David Chapman was unveiled on Tuesday by Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith and HSBC chief executive officer Phillip Butterfield.The books are the latest to be included in the Ministry of Education’s Braille Programme.Dame Jennifer said: “Since the official launch of the Braille Programme, we have found that the launch was like throwing a stone into the water. Ever since, the ripple effects have helped the project to get wider and wider.“Generous community sponsors and partners have provided Braille books at each level, so that all visually impaired students in the public school system can be exposed to the printed word.”She thanked HSBC’s Bank of Bermuda Foundation for financial support and Mr Chapman for “highlighting the importance of embracing and preserving our environment”.
