Americans during a weekend of violence which had Police and ambulance services stretched.

And it was feared yesterday one of the American men may have suffered eye damage following the Saturday night assault.

The 39-year-old sustained as well a fractured elbow and head cuts, and is recovering in hospital.

His friend, also 39, was treated for a head cut, but later discharged.

The pair are believed to have been attacked near the City Hall parking lot. It is understood weapons were involved.

Bruised and bleeding, the men later staggered into the Shutters restaurant in Burnaby Street, and were rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by one of the owners.

Yesterday Police revealed four 21-year-old men had been arrested over the incident.

Two have been bailed and CID detectives were continuing inquiries, said Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale.

In another incident, a man was assaulted with a machete at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Sunday night.

He received a head injury, and a 50-year-old Pembroke man was later arrested.

Police were also called out to two weekend disturbances, involving fighting.

A man needed hospital treatment for a sprained ankle after a punch-up at Granaway Heights, Southampton, on Sunday night. His opponent is not believed to have been hurt.

Officers from the western division were called out to deal with the incident, said Sgt. Dale.

He added Police also responded to a report of youths fighting at Friswell's Hill, Pembroke. "But everyone had gone prior to Police arrival,'' he said.

Detectives are probing how a 35-year-old Pembroke man received an injury to the back of his head on Saturday night. Police found him sitting on a kerb on Court Street.
