Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves abruptly abandoned Plea Court proceedings yesterday morning after Police officers were late bringing suspects to trial.

And after the suspects were remanded to the afternoon session, court insiders told The Royal Gazette that Mr. Greaves was in a "bad mood" and walked out again.

Mr. Greaves stormed out of the courtroom in the morning, angered that Police were tardy in escorting suspects that had been held in custody on warrants.

He had dealt with those on mention within ten minutes but stipulated that he wants to handle warrant matters earlier.

Of the remaining nine people in court, three were called on warrants but were not in custody. They were sent to Police Prosecutions to reschedule another court date and the six in custody, were held until the afternoon session.

But Mr. Greaves had a "bad mood" and left the afternoon session as well.

His two walk-outs yesterday signalled a new seriousness to Police Prosecutions, who escort prisoners from Hamilton Police Station to Magistrates' Court.

The six men in custody were held in remand overnight until this morning's Plea Court, which will be their third time in court since they were arrested over the weekend.

Magistrates' Court administrator Tracey Kelly was out sick, Chief Justice Austin Ward refused to comment and Mr. Greaves failed to return phone calls yesterday.
