It’s nice to see my old friend Harry Redknapp back in football management following his appointment last week at struggling Queens Park Rangers. Good old Harry brings something special to management and there is never a dull moment when he’s around, particularly during his interviews. He added a bit of humour in yesterday’s press conference when quizzed about the possibility of taking Liverpool’s Joe Cole, Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Darren Bent of Aston Villa to QPR.Most times when Harry speaks you have to listen to what he says and then read between the lines, too.The suggestion yesterday that Redknapp was interested in Lampard, ironically his nephew, wasn’t exactly denied by Uncle Harry who joked: “Frank’s always wanted to play for QPR. He’s not interested about playing Champions League or winning it again this year.”Joe Cole has been out of favour at Liverpool while Bent’s future at Villa is now looking uncertain after not even making the squad recently. If anybody could get them to sign for QPR, then Harry could.Both previously played under Harry so a deal for both might not be out of the question. Regarding Cole, Harry told the reporters: “I’ve always liked Joe. I signed him for West Ham at 11-years-old so no one knows more about him than me. I still think he’s got talent and there’s a top player there, but I’ve made no enquiry about Joe. I’ve had no contact with his agent or anyone.”If those transfers materialise, it won’t be until the January transfer window. Harry knows that QPR cannot wait that long before turning the team’s fortunes around as few teams have been in last place at Christmas and still avoided the drop.Harry has a reputation of pulling teams out of trouble, having done it with both Portsmouth and a few years ago when he took over a struggling Tottenham team that was bottom of the Premier League.If anybody can do it would be Harry who has been in this situation before and knows what’s required. I’m not surprised he took over the bottom team after Mark Hughes was fired after a bad run of results this season. Harry has taken Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond, his assistants at Portsmouth and Spurs, with him to Loftus Road, so he is certainly gearing up to the challenge. He has already let the players know that four points from 13 games when he arrived isn’t good enough.He started with a draw but there is still a long way to go and everything will depend on the type of results they get in the coming weeks. The guy who owns the club has lots of money and to get Cole and Lampard would be a good move for them. At 34, Lampard’s days at Chelsea might be numbered anyway.Speaking of Chelsea, their new interim manager Rafa Benitez hasn’t had the best of starts as the Chelsea fans booed him quite strongly in his first match to show how unhappy they are with his appointment. We have to remember what happened when he was at Liverpool when he said some things about Chelsea, including that he thinks former player Didier Drogba was a diver. He and the Special One (Jose Mourinho) also never got on and the fans haven’t forgiven him yet.Benitez just needs time to turn it around but hopefully it won’t start at my old club this weekend. Let’s hope West Ham can get a result, though it is going to be hard. They need the points too.At Chelsea it is all about results and people have to understand that in sports if I’m the owner and I’m not happy then I’m entitled to make changes. George Steinbrenner did the same thing as the owner of the New York Yankees.
