Bermuda-based Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. said yesterday that it hired Timothy Ryan to run a new excess casualty team, which will sell umbrella and excess liability policies in the US surplus lines insurance market.

Mr. Ryan was previously vice-president of underwriting and Vmarketing at Carolina Casualty Insurance Company, a division of WR Berkley, where he had worked since 2006.

Before that, Mr. Ryan worked at General Star Management Company, a division of Berkshire Hathaway , from 1994 to 2006.
