Upton Park can be happy hunting ground for Carroll

Andy Carroll has had a difficult time of things at Liverpool but hopefully West Ham will be a happy hunting ground for the big striker who has joined the Hammers on loan.He actually finished the season strongly at Anfield last season but I believe he can rediscover the goal scoring form he showed at Newcastle United.Carroll, who had a decent European Championships for England, is a big aggressive striker and I’m confident our manager Sam Allardyce will bring out the best in him.The same can be said about Dimitar Berbatov who left Manchester United for Fulham yesterday. Berbatov is a quality player and just needs time to get used to his new surroundings but, again, I think Craven Cottage can be a good home for him.No one likes to sit on the bench and I’m sure both Carroll and Berbatov will be looking forward to their fresh starts at their new clubs.I don’t think it’s been a particularly good transfer window for Tottenham, who have lost important midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart and Luka Modric but have picked up Mousa Dembele from Fulham.I believe Spurs have failed in their attempt to land Joao Moutinho from FC Porto; he would have been a terrific player for them.I fear that Spurs could struggle this season as they are lacking real quality in their side.Everton have made a cracking start to the new season, with wins over Man United and Aston Villa, and have also further strengthened their squad with the capture of Costa Rica international Bryan Oveido. I’ve been very impressed with David Moyes’ men and they could have a strong Premier League campaign. The Champions League draw threw up some interesting storylines with Real Madrid and Manchester City being in the same group as well as some other decent teams.Defending champions Chelsea also have a tough task heading to Shakhtar Donetsk and Italian champions Juventus, but none of the groups will be easy and City will need to do better than last season when they fell well short.I couldn’t argue with Andres Iniesta being named as the European Player of the Year.He had an excellent season for club and country and has won pretty much every trophy out there in the last few years.Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were also worthy nominees but in the end I felt Iniesta was the right choice.Looking ahead to this weekend’s games, West Ham and Fulham play each other and it will be interesting to see how both team’s signings get on.Last week the Hammers were very poor against Swansea City and were punished and deservedly so.Arsenal travel to Anfield to play Liverpool which should be interesting given that the Gunners haven’t scored yet haven’t conceded.I’ll also be closely watching Manchester United and Southampton. Unsurprisingly, I believe United will be far too strong for the Saints.
