The wait is finally over and a new season is upon us as we anxiously await the twists and turns of a new campaign with many teams harbouring dreams of both winning the title and avoiding relegation.I’m currently in England to see my beloved West Ham United welcome Aston Villa on opening day. There is a real buzz around the whole country in regards to what is about to take place.My money would be on Manchester City for the title even though Manchester United have gone and bought Robin van Persie. City have a complete team and will be the team everyone wants to beat.They didn’t really splash out in the transfer market but with the team that they already have and the ability to blow teams off the pitch, it should be theirs to lose rather than theirs to win.Chelsea will be in the running as well, although their spending has been on younger players with an eye for the future so it may take them a while to adjust to the rigours of the league.The game is very frantic in England and it takes players from other countries time to get used to the pace and how realise physical it is.The relegation battle will be interesting but it is too early to think about who will go down. However, if last season was an indication of what will transpire then it will be one of the more established teams struggling at the bottom.The clubs that came up in 2011 ended staying up, so hopefully my boys can repeat what QPR, Swansea and Norwich City did.We are looking to cement a place in top ten and if we can do that it will be great for our fans.Bringing in one or two players to go with what we already have should see us at least survive, but the first few weeks will be a telling point for all the clubs not just West Ham.How the season transpires will, for the most part, be sorted in September when all the big clubs play each other and then test themselves against the smaller clubs.One team of interest is Southampton who have lost the likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in recent years.They have a wealth of young promising talent and only time will tell how well they will perform.When you look at the Saints and newly-promoted Reading, they both had good seasons last year as they gained automatic promotion and will not be scared of anyone in the top flight.They aren’t along for the ride but to throw the cat among the pigeons and see where it gets them.One team under the microscope are Liverpool who start with Brendan Rogers in charge. He needs to be given time to settle down although the fans wil see things differently.If he can get them to play good football and get wins then he will be fine but he needs the time to get used to his surroundings and put things into place.
