And it will mean Bermudians will not have to travel abroad to improve their qualifications.

The University of Edinburgh will launch its MBA Distance Learning Programme at City Hall, today at 6 p.m. It has 4,000 students throughout the world, although it only started in 1990.

A spokesman for the programme's Bermuda representatives, Cranleigh Ltd., said: "The MBA programme allows students to enrol in a variety of courses and study at their own pace using their own personal computers and software and books supplied by the university.

"The ability to earn a Masters degree in Bermuda will be very useful for businesses looking to develop their staff, for people interested in moving up in the corporate world without having to travel and for persons looking for a cost effective way to improve their education without leaving their family for long periods of time.'' Director of Studies, Prof. Keigh Lumsden from the University of Edinburgh Heriot Watt Research Centre and management from Cranleigh Ltd. will be on hand to launch the programme.

A video of the university and practical demonstration of the programme will be featured.
