They say that time stands still for no man. As this is applicable in life, it is even that much more applicable when it comes to technology.

A prime example is by the time thousands of people are standing in line to buy the iPhone 7, Apple is already working on iPhone 8 to sell to people next year this same time.

A year or so ago, I wrote about ways to cut expenses. One particular way was to purchase a Roku box for streaming shows from the internet on to your flatscreen television.

This would enable users to see a wider range of TV shows, movies and online entertainment at a fraction of the cost of what is being paid out for monthly cable bills.

Breaking it down like this, a Roku box costs in the range of $30 to $130, depending on the model one wishes to purchase. Considering this is a one-time cost when you compare that with cable bills of at least $100 per month, or $1,200 per annum, there is simply little to no reason to continue to pay those cable costs.

Another cheaper option would be to purchase a Google Chromecast device. This retails for about $30 at Best Buy or $50 locally. This device allows you to cast or project anything from your smartphone and/or tablet on to your flatscreen TV. It takes all of ten minutes to set up and draws its power source from the TV itself.

To complement this hardware, there are a host of online apps that allow you to watch unlimited movies, documentaries, live television and sport from around the world. Three such apps that stand out are Netflix, Kodi and Watch Live.

Over the past month, I have been able to binge on a few Netflix series such as, but not limited to, Narcos2, Marco Polo, Homeland and the latest Nextflix hit series Luke Cage.

So if you are interested in expanding your viewing choices while cutting down on your monthly expenses, I would strongly advise you to look into getting one of these devices. It truly is time to cut the cable cords.
