Hamilton Insurance Group has announced that former Deloitte vice-chairman William Freda has joined its board of directors.

Mr Freda will chair the reinsurance company’s board’s Audit Committee.

“It’s a real pleasure to welcome Bill to our board,” said Hamilton Insurance Group chief executive officer Brian Duperreault.

“His knowledge of and experience with the global insurance industry is almost without parallel, and represents an excellent complement to the talent and expertise of our other board members.

“I look forward to having the benefit of Bill’s guidance and insight as we continue to develop Hamilton Insurance Group as a premier property casualty insurer and reinsurer.”

Mr Freda concluded his distinguished career at Deloitte earlier this year, having worked for the firm for 40 years since his graduation from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

At Deloitte, Mr Freda served on a wide range of multinational engagements, interacting with clients’ audit committees, boards of directors and senior management to address critical, strategic issues.

Mr Freda’s senior positions at Deloitte included chairman of the Risk Committee and the Audit Committee of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd’s board of directors, managing partner of Deloitte’s US client initiatives, and regional managing partner of the Northeast, Deloitte’s largest US region.

Mr Freda is involved in many industry associations and community organisations, including the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation and the Board of Trustees of Bentley University. His commitments include the Financial Women’s Association and the Economic Club of New York.
