Duperreault to ask: Where are the women?

Brian Duperreault

Insurance industry veteran Brian Duperreault will address the lack of women executives in the re/insurance industry when he speaks at the Bermuda Captive Conference (BCC) next month.

Mr Duperreault, CEO of the Hamilton Insurance Group, will speak to more than 630 industry professionals at the Fairmont Southampton resort in a presentation entitled “Where are the women?”

The speech is highly anticipated and conference organisers have already received many requests from the wider business community wishing to join the session. To accommodate market demand, conference organisers have issued passes for admission to the session only for $25.

Interested parties are advised to register online at www.bermudacaptive.bm. Monies raised from the session will be donated towards a student scholarship from the Bermuda Foundation of Insurance Studies (BFIS).

Others notable participants at the conference, which runs from June 1 to 4, include Carolyn Snow, president of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), who will address this year’s attendees as a panellist in a round-table discussion on the implications and opportunities for captives as a result of US healthcare reform.

Finance Minister Bob Richards and Shelby Weldon, licensing and authorisations director for the Bermuda Monetary Authority will also join the panel discussions.

This year, the Wednesday morning sessions on June 4 will be dedicated to the Bermuda commercial market. The first session will cover the relevance of Bermuda in today’s world and its ability to provide comprehensive insurance coverage for all enterprise risk management needs. The second session will focus on reinsurance and the changing dynamics of the Bermuda reinsurance market, specifically the impact of insurance-linked securities (ILS) and hedge funds on the traditional reinsurance marketplace.

Tom McMahon, chairman of the BCC, said: “Each year the conference has grown in attendance and notoriety among risk management professionals. The BCC Committee has developed the event over the past ten years to become a venue for thought leadership and innovation in the captive industry.

“Our excellent speakers, panellists and attending executives help to create an environment at the BCC that is truly unique. Many professionals return each year to benefit from the learning and insight.”
