Fishing line road hazards warning
Criminals may be placing fishing line across roads in an attempt to cause motorists to crash, making them easy targets to rob.
Police have confirmed two incidents at the weekend where motorists were disabled after getting caught up in lines.
And while neither incident resulted in a robbery, a spokesman said police were aware of an e-mail being circulated “warning cyclists that traps are being set using fishing line across roadways to dismount cyclists with the intention of robbing them”.
According to the spokesman, a car became entangled in fishing line on Marsh Folly Road, Pembroke, last Friday.
And on Sunday evening an off-duty officer came off his motorcycle after becoming entangled in fishing line on Cobbs Hill Road, Warwick.
“It is unclear if the presence of fishing line in the roadways is intentional or as a consequence of increased kite flying activity but the Bermuda Police Service urges increased vigilance by motorists and pedestrians to report any hazards to road users whether it appears intentional or accidental,” the spokesman said.
