Reggie Lambe is to leave Toronto FC after being placed on waivers just days before the start of the new Major League Soccer season.

Lambe, who had a stint in England at Ipswich Town prior to moving to Toronto in December 2011, is free to sign for another MLS side.

The 23-year-old made 66 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and adding four assists in his two seasons at the club.

“We’d like to thank Reggie for his contributions to Toronto FC over the past two seasons, and wish him well in his future endeavours,” Tim Bezbatchenko, the Toronto general manager, said yesterday.

Lambe tweeted yesterday: “Enjoyed my time at Toronto, sad to leave the club, wish the lads the best this season.”

The 23-year-old was part of Toronto’s 2012 Amway Canadian Championship winning team, scoring the match-winning goal against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of the final.

Despite signing a new contract before pre-season, manager Ryan Nelsen has decided the midfielder is not part of his plans.

Toronto, who recently signed England striker Jermain Defoe from Tottenham Hotspur, start their season on March 15 away to Seattle Sounders before playing DC United at home the following weekend.

Lambe made four Carling Cup starts and two Championship substitute appearances during his time at Ipswich. He also played seven games while on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One in 2011.

He also earned 12 caps for Bermuda, scoring four goals. His international debut came at the age of 16 against St Kitts and Nevis in December 2007.
