Butterfield shares surge again
Butterfield Bank shares surged for a second successive day in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading to come within a cent of the $2 mark.
The bank, which announced a tripling in annual profit and a special dividend on Tuesday, rose 7.6 percent today to follow its 6.3 percent rise yesterday.
Butterfield gained 14 cents to close on $1.99 on the trading of 2,500 shares.
The sharp, two-day rally has added around $137 million to the bank’s market capitalisation, which is now more than $1.09 billion.
The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed 66.09 points, or 4.88 percent, to close on 1,419.4. Volume totalled 2,600 shares valued at $5,645.
The Bermuda Government 4.75 percent bonds also saw trading action, with 15 shares changing hands at $105.
The BSX Insurance Index gained 3.97 points, or 0.29 percent, to close on 1,377.27.
