Man faces charges of sexually exploiting young girl

A Paget man admitted conspiring to import drugs while a second man refused to answer charges of sexually exploiting a young girl when they appeared at a Supreme Court Arraignments session.

Howard Charles, 64, pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiring to import cannabis between a date unknown and June 5, 2009, but denied possessing the cannabis with intent to supply.

Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field told the court that they were willing to move to sentencing on the conspiracy charge while leaving the possession charge on file.

Charles was remanded into custody until February 17 when he is set to return to court for sentence.

Also appearing before the court was a 39-year-old Sandys man charged with four counts of sexually exploiting a young person while in a position of trust.

All four offences were allegedly committed with the same girl on unknown dates in August or September 2013.

The defendant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told the court when the first charge was read that he would not enter a plea until after he spoke with his lawyer. He remained silent while the remaining three charges were read.

Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves entered not guilty pleas in connection to all four charges, remanding the defendant into custody until the next arraignments session.
