Sources of inspiration
‘Daring’ can be described as being adventurous, courageous or bold.
When taking to the streets for this week’s Royal Gazette fashion column, we decided to ask a few ladies about which style or trend they would be daring enough to try next.
Kelly Ann Pacheco, 27, said she loves some of the chic designs worn by celebrity Kim Kardashian and wants to venture into adding similar styles into her wardrobe.
“I just find her inspiring with her outfits,” she said. “Although I work in accounting, I like fashion as well and try and keep up with new things that come up.”
Ms Pacheco described her style as fun. She said she tries to lay pieces out on her bed each morning to see how an outfit might come together; or finds inspiration online.
“I might check out the summer or winter outfits online and try and mix and match pieces from this or that outfit and put it together.”
She very rarely leaves the house without something in leopard print on; and loves to incorporate accessories by designers like David Yurman or Michael Kors into her look.
Allana Bean, 31, described her style as eclectic and unique. She takes inspiration from stars like Marilyn Monroe and Gwen Stefani, who are her role models in the fashion industry.
She said there wasn’t any particular style she was looking to try in the future.
“I’m not really a try person. I’m just a get up and go type and tend to let my dress inspire me. On a bad day my clothes inspire me and make me smile,” she said.
Panzy Olander, 19, said she was really hoping to step outside her comfort zone and try a preppy style.
Her only concern was that her athletic build might be too harsh for such clothes. “But one day I will try it and see how it goes,” she said.
Ms Olander said she tended to pick clothing pieces that were artistic and sporty.
“I went to university for art and design and am just waiting to go back to school in September, so I would say art plays a big part in my style,” she said. “I’m also into kick boxing and Muay Thai so that’s one of my main influences as well.”
Her mother is from Costa Rica, so Hispanic style and culture are also an inspiration to her.
She said: “My mom loves to wear lots of colours. I am actually wearing her top now. She’s the one that taught me how to dress.”
