A Hamilton Parish man has received an $800 fine after he admitted possessing more than seven grams of cannabis.

Leigh Swan, 29, of North Shore Road, was arrested at the Hamilton Workman’s Club on May 28 last year, when officers observed him hiding something underneath the lid of a trash can.

Officers inspected the trash can and found a plastic bag containing ten individual plastic twists containing plantlike material, prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates’ Court.

Subsequent analysis of the plantlike substance showed it to be 7.57g of cannabis.
