St David’s boosted by victory

St David’s gave their survival hopes a tremendous boost when Angelo Cannonier netted two minutes into injury time to give them a 1-0 win over visiting Southampton Rangers to move off the bottom of the tables.

The game’s only goal came following a free kick inside the St David’s half which saw Zachary Morris dribble to the left touchline and square the ball to the far post where the unmarked Cannonier headed home.

St David’s had host of chances in the first half while Janeiro Tucker put an effort wide on a breakaway for Rangers in the second half as goalkeeper Cory Richardson came off his line.

The three points, combined with Wolves’ 3-0 loss to PHC, lifted St David’s ahead of Wolves in the standings. College student Ryan Hassell, who starred in PHC’s PDL Festival Cup success over Christmas, continued his scoring form yesterday with a hat-trick at Southampton Oval after opening the scoring from a corner midway through the first half and then adding further goals in the 50th and 65th minutes. PHC moved two places in the standings, ahead of both Rangers and Hamilton Parish.
