Arrest made after alleged hit and run crash
A man suspected of a hit and run has been arrested, after a woman was struck on Victoria Street and injured in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police responded to a report at 2.30am of a 20-year-old Southampton woman who was knocked down by a car as she crossed the street near the Victoria Grill restaurant to speak with a taxi driver.
According to police, the driver stopped briefly before leaving the scene. The woman was subsequently treated in hospital for severe road rash and a broken collarbone.
At around 3am, a vehicle spotting the description of the hit and run car was stopped by police on Harbour Road, Paget.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested after officers noticed his smelled of intoxicants. The incident is now under investigation.
