Trinidad defender dies aged 22

Trinidad defender Akeem Adams

Akeem Adams, a Trinidad defender, who toured Bermuda with his country’s under-23 team in 2009, died today after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He was 22 years old.

Adams had been playing for Hungarian giants Ferencvaros until suffering a heart attack in September.

He had been hospitalised since the heart attack and his left leg had been amputated to alleviate circulatory problems.

Adams, who joined Ferencvaros in August, played in Trinidad under-23 team’s 5-2 win against Bermuda’s under-23s at the National Sports Centre in December 2009.

He also played nine times for Trinidad and started three games at the Under-20 World Cup held in Egypt in 2009.
