The City of Hamilton was bustling this week with last minute shoppers looking for holiday gifts — and it proved to be all the more reason for a few stylish people to show off their unique dress. The Royal Gazette’s Lifestyle section stumbled on two sisters with completely different styles, but noticed that both stood out from the crowd.

Desiree Riley, 22, described her style as unique and trendy and said she tries her best to be creative and different.

Rocking studded black high-tops and a monochrome photography skirt, she said: “My style is very different from mostly everyone else. It’s on style, but with my own twist. I will wear a different sweater or top to make my outfit stand out.”

The sales assistant at Jazzy’s Boutique said she was looking forward to wearing something funky on Christmas Day.

“I will probably wear something sparkly, but plan to stay away from red or green and might try maroon and black,” she said.

“Then for New Year’s I might wear something like a crop top with sequins and jodhpur pants. Everyone wears dresses so I want to do something out of the ordinary.”

Ms Riley recommends that women try a dark coloured lip shade, like berry or plum for the holiday. When it comes to clothes she encourages people to try trends like velvet, leather and tassels, which are all hot items for the season.

Her sister 16-year-old student Azana Riley said her style was more simple. “I just try to match. I pick out one signature piece, today it was a printed sweat top, and then go from there.”

If any holiday events pop up for the teenager, her go to outfit would probably be a short dress and fishnet stalkings with a blazer.

She said: “When it comes to fashion I would say just be yourself and express yourself and pick out a great piece and match it with good accessories and a hat maybe.”

Also out and about was banker Omar Lodge, 27.

He said his style was “preppy chic” and admitted he usually dresses depending on how he feels.

“I normally start with the tie or a shirt and that determines where I go from there and what my pocket square, socks and glasses will be. I have about four different frames that I like to switch up.”

He said his classic holiday outfit would probably be a casual sweater, but he might wear something more formal if he’s in the mood to dress up. “I also do jeans, boots and fleece vests at this time of year. It’s a mix of practical and fashionable,” he explained.

“I would tell people not to follow the trends. They should keep up with what’s in style, but its better to pick up specific pieces that help you look more fashionable and pair it will pieces you already have. I might mix something that I had three or five years ago with something else I just bought.”

Seventeen-year-old Zach Friesen was spotted rocking a pair of multicolour Nike fly knits that caught our eye.

The Warwick Academy student said his style is typically inspired by European trends. “It’s more classy,” he said. “They wear more fitted pants and shirts, but today my look is more urban because I wanted to dress down a bit more.”

When it comes to dressing for the festive season, Mr Friesen said he preferred to wear plaid instead of the typical red and green.

“It’s a better look and not so cheesy,” he added. “Plaid is definitely in this season. It’s huge. And also long tees are popular because stars like Kanye West wear them.”
