Bermudian teen musician Jahroy Richards was a runaway hit at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards held in Hollywood, California this week.

The live, red-carpet style awards show honours the music of visual mediums, the music of independent music artists, and the professionals responsible for placing music in visual mediums. The two-hour event featured live music performances, award presentations, and celebrity appearances. This year the celebrity hosts were former Matchbox 20 member Adam Gaynor, Hollywood writer and director Andy Fickman, and Golden Globe/Oscar nominee actor Eric Roberts.

Mr Richards, 17, known as Kidd Clazzic, won first place in the Best Rap/Hip Hop category for his single ‘Fly Away’, which features fellow young Bermudian artist Keke Roberts. He beat seven other nominees for the title. The award was presented last night in Hollywood’s Fonda Theatre.

“I was cool with it,” Mr Richards said. “When I came from behind the curtain to accept the award and I saw the people in the audience I was a bit nervous. It was a good bit of people in the audience.

“I am hoping that my music will get to a bigger audience of people. Hopefully, I plan to drop something (produce an album) in 2014. I have ideas, but it is still in the planning stage.”

For his efforts, he received a large plaque in a frame.

“Before they called my name I had a feeling like I was going to win this,” he said. “This song is really cool.”

While at the awards he had the opportunity to meet Eric Roberts, who was in the movie ‘The Expendables’.

CEO of PlayList Management, Theresa Minors said: “This is simply amazing. We are so proud of Kidd Clazzic and his accomplishment. To receive the award for his first single is just outstanding.

“For the company, this is our fourth nomination and our second win (both wins in the Rap/Hip Hop Category 2012 & 2013). Bermuda group Illogical Linguistics won last year for ‘Go Slow’. We are extremely proud of this accomplishment and look forward to bigger and better things to come for Kidd Clazzic and PlayList Management.”

David Minors, of Playlist Management, added: “I think what stood out about this song was good quality of content and great production and that comes from our production team of Ivibe productions. Ivibes produce both Illogical Linguistics track and Kidd Clazzic tracks.”
