Jamie Sapsford will be named the newest common councillor in St George after he was the only candidate to be nominated for the post.

Parliamentary Registrar Randy Scott confirmed this afternoon that at the end of today’s nomination period, only Mr Sapsford had been named as a candidate.

As a result, the municipal election that had been scheduled to take place in the town next month has been cancelled.

Mr Sapsford will replace former common councillor George Sutherland, who stepped down earlier this year.
