US citizens find plenty of ways to celebrate July 4 in Bermuda
Americans living in Bermuda, or visiting the Island, have found plenty of enjoyable ways to celebrate the Fourth of July US Independence Day.New traditions and enjoying the beauty of Bermuda is what it’s all about for many, including Minyell Long and her three sons, who hail from Detroit and currently live in Devonshire. They spent part of the day preparing for their celebrations tonight by purchasing US flags and other items.“Back home in Detroit we always go see the fireworks and have a family get-together at our neighbourhood park,” said Ms Long.John Weir and Donna Taylor, of Philadelphia, came to Bermuda on the Celebrity Summit cruise ship and have thoroughly enjoyed their experiences here. After planning their trip for months they were glad they came to celebrate July 4 on the Island.“We went to Horseshoe Bay, had lunch in Hamilton and sat outside on a deck and enjoyed the view,” Mrs Taylor said. While leaving Elbow Beach they compared their beach experience on their July 4 vacation. “Horseshoe Beach is definitely beautiful and interesting with the large rock formations, but Elbow Beach was definitely more fun,” they said collectively. “We didn’t have a July 4 picnic this year, but we’re looking forward to the celebration at Dockyard because of the fireworks.”“Bermuda is different than the other islands, it’s more conservative, the areas are more upscale, and the locals are pleasant. We are surprised how natural the beaches are here too.”For the Murphy family, of Brookfield, Connecticut, celebrating the Fourth of July in Bermuda is exciting. Their plan included going to the beaches on South Shore, relaxing at a restaurant nearby enjoying rum swizzles and going night fishing while watching the fireworks. While leaving Elbow Beach, Mike Murphy said: “This place is unbelievable. Our family enjoys chicken wings, BBQ, beer and country music back home, so this is nice and something new.”
