‘I’d have to consider any offer’ says Nahki

Back on Island: Nahki Wells has been working on his strength and conditioning at the Olympic Club with personal trainer Muhsin Nasir during the last few weeks.

Nahki Wells hasn’t ruled out a big summer move - but insists he could realise his Championship ambitions with his current club Bradford City.Wells has been linked with second tier clubs Burnley, Huddersfield, Leeds and Bournemouth after plundering 26 goals last season to help the Bantams win promotion to League One.But while the 23-year-old said he was more than happy to stay at Valley Parade, he admits if the right opportunity came along then he would have to consider it.“I’m contracted to Bradford, I’m happy at Bradford and the club have done a lot for me, but I would never rule out the option of playing at a higher level,” Wells told The Royal Gazette.“It’s the same for any player . . . it’s a no-brainer that if you have the opportunity to kick on in your career then you have to take it.“If a situation comes about I will deal with it accordingly but I’m totally focused on August 3rd when we kick off our season against Bristol City.“If anything changes in the meantime I will get my head around that.”Although Wells, who has two years remaining on his contract, said he was flattered to have fallen under the radar of Championship suitors he insists he is fully committed to Bradford’s League One campaign.“It’s a win-win situation for me because I really believe Bradford can kick on again and get promoted to the Championship,” he said.“I mean, it is a blessing when you hear that (Championship) teams are interested in you but you can’t let it get to you.“It just inspires me even more as that’s where I want to get to, but in order for me to do that I need to be fully focused.“If I’m still at Bradford on August 3rd then I will continue to do my best for them until the next opportunity to possibly kick on.”Wells believes he can be equally as devastating in League One and has backed himself to hit the 25-goal barrier again this season. The former Dandy Town man, who became the first Bermudian to score at Wembley in the League Two play-off final, reckons playing against better teams in front of bigger crowds will bring out the best in him.“League One is a step up but I did well in League Two and I’m still setting my standards high and aiming for 25 goals,” said Wells.“I think League One is the minimum level I should be playing at and I don’t think it’s a drastic step up, if anything it might suit me even more.“I think playing at bigger stadiums in front of bigger crowds gets the best out of me.”Wells had a brief taste of League One during his short spell at Carlisle United who released him after making just three substitute appearances. It still rankles with Wells that he wasn’t afforded more time to establish himself at the Cumbrians and said he was looking forward to facing his former club on August 10.“This season is another chance for me to prove myself and I’m at a club now who have faith in me and believe in what I can do,” he said.“I can’t wait to get back to Bradford for pre-season and see what players we bring in and how we go from there.“I just can’t wait to kick off the season and maybe get an opportunity to prove Carlisle wrong.”
