Luckily, there are four cruise options in this post alone that are coming up in September. Here’s what’s happening in Bermuda:n The next Chewstick Griot Session tomorrow night promises to take audiences on a journey of conversation through poetry, reflecting and exploring a range of life’s experiences. Award-winning poet Melodye Micëre Van Putten, accompanied by percussionist Thomas Lowery, will be preceded by opening act David O’Shea. Admission is $10. Doors open at 7pm and showtime is at 8pm. The boat will have an open bar and will depart Albuoy’s Point at 6pm, returning at 9.30pm. Tickets cost $60 and are available from any national team member or from brfuBoozeCruise@gmail.com. All proceeds go towards the Bermuda National Men’s XV World Cup qualifying campaign.n Somerset weren’t the only winners at Cup Match this year as Team Soca also reigned supreme at the Soca vs Reggae Cup Match after-party. Their win will be celebrated at the Soca Team Victory Cruise and D’General’s Birthday aboard the UberVida on Sunday. The cruise departs No 1 car park at 8pm, returning at 11pm with music by Team Soca (Trini Boy, D’Nice, Selecta Fray and D’General) while New Era will mix it up and play dancehall, hip hop and R&B favourites. Tickets are $30 and must be bought in advance from D’General on 300-1049. Alternatively, e-mail info@d-general.com. No tickets will be sold at the boat. The after-party will be at Captain’s; entry is free with cruise bands or $20 on the door.n Another holiday weekend is coming our way - hurray! - and UberVida are giving us an option to celebrate in style on Monday. The UberVida Labour Day Party will depart Front Street at 2pm returning at 6pm with club music by DJ Donovan. Coolers will be provided so you can bring your own booze or purchase bottles there. Tickets cost $40 each, or $30 each if you buy ten, and are available from www.ptix.bm.n The Department of Health and the Corporation of Hamilton will once again host Celebrating Wellness in Victoria Park. The free event on Wednesday, September 12, is part of the ongoing Move More Campaign and Caribbean Wellness Day. From 5pm until 8pm there will be health screening, healthy food, health information and giveaways, as well as activities to get you moving such as Zumba, TRX, Line dancing, Tai Chi and old-fashioned games. The boat will board at 8.30pm, leaving Albuoy’s Point at 9pm and returning at midnight. The ticket price includes a full meal, cash bar, music by Magnum Force and After Dark and a free after-party at Shine’s. Tickets are $50 in advance (available from Fish N Ting, Jamaican Grill Court Street, In Between Boutique and executive members) or $75 at the dock.n Think we can all get together and clock up 10,000 miles in a single day? Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Lindo’s Group of Companies, the Department of Health and several health agencies hope so as they are sponsoring Let’s Move Day on Sunday, September 23. The community-wide event has the aim of getting as many people as possible involved in physical activity with a specific activity goal of generating 10,000 miles Island-wide (walk, run or cycle). There are three ways you can participate - join the Walking Club at Chaplin Bay at 7am, participate in one of two walking routes (Shelly Bay Field to the Arboretum or TN Tatem Middle School to the Arboretum) or do something on your own and then log your miles on the website. There will be a special obstacle course for children at the Arboretum from 3pm until 7pm and part proceeds will be used to support health promotion initiatives in schools.
