Bradford City striker Nahki Wells put an end to a goal famine to keep his team’s promotion hopes alive at Valley Parade yesterday.The Bermuda International netted the game’s only goal in the 23rd minute to earn the Bantams a 1-0 win against Northampton Town on home turf.Wells capitalised on a defensive mix-up between Cobblers defender Nathan Cameron and his ‘keeper Lee Nicholls to tap home from close range.It was the former Dandy Town player’s 19th goal of the season and first since scoring in City’s 2-2 away draw with Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium on February 2.“It was a strong performance against a good side,” Bradford manager Phil Parkinson commented on his club’s website. “We had to be strong in all departments, and I felt we were.“The only disappointment is that we didn’t get a second goal to try and finish things off. We have players coming back into form now, however, and that is a really good sign everyone is full of confidence, even the lads on the bench.”The win moved Bradford up to eighth in the League Two standings, a mere two points adrift of a place in the play-offs with a game in hand on seventh-placed Exeter City.Meanwhile, Bermudian striker Antwan Russell opened his scoring account at Evo-Stik League Northern Premier League side Ilkeston FC who were held to a 2-2 draw at home by league leaders North Ferriby United.Russell came on as a second half sub at New Manor Ground and put his team 2-1 up after getting past a defender and calmly rolling the ball into the next. However, the Robins were denied maximum points after the visitors equalised via a disputed penalty.“Antwan showed his class with a fine goal and hopefully that's the first of many he will score for us,” Robins manager Kevin Wilson stated on his club’s website. “It would have been even better if it had been the winner."Russell opened his scoring account in only his second appearance since signing with the Robins from Robin Hood until the end of the season late last month.He made his debut as a sub in the Robins’ 1-1 home draw with FC Buxton last Thursday.
