New Paget business makes a lot of scents!
A new oil and fragrance shop has opened in Paget with hundreds of scents to choose from.Scents-A-Lot Fragrance Oil Bar, located on Lover’s Lane, carries a variety of body oils, burning oils, incense, body lotion and wash, cocoa and shea butter soaps, in addition to electric-burning fragrance lamps, air and car fresheners.Owned by Gannon Trott, the new shop opened this past Saturday in the space previously occupied by the blood-testing clinic run by Hamilton Medical Centre.Mr Trott, who is a manager at FedEx, came upon the idea of setting up a side business due to his own personal interest in oils and his feelings that Bermuda lacked a diverse selection.Last year he ordered some oils for himself and admits that he went a bit “overboard” and brought in too many.“I said to myself I have to sell some of this, it’s too much,” explained Mr Trott. He set up a roadside stand at Shelly Bay in October and it quickly became very popular.“It took off immediately,” he said. “I knew this was something I had to do so I pursued it.“I find a lot of people now are turning to oils because the perfumes have too much alcohol in it and people are really inclined to use natural body oils.”Mr Trott, however, had to plan around the weather in order to set up his stand, so he decided to look for a more permanent home.“Because of the wind and rain, it pushed me to find a building so we didn’t have to rely on the weather,” he said. “So I did some research on it and decided I wanted to pursue the opportunity.”Now Scents-A-Lot carries more than 200 different oils and fragrances that would appeal to men, women, unisex and children; 20 various soaps, and dozens of small (11”) and large (19”) incense sticks. The younger set will also find products catered to them, including fragrances like Preppy Princess and Strawberry Swirl for girls and the Michael Jordan Flight fragrance line for boys.Mr Trott also plans to bring in a natural cocoa and shea butter that can be mixed with the scent of a customer’s choosing.“I’m looking to have that available within the next week or so,” said Mr Trott, who employs his brother, Carl Lambert, as the shop’s sales associate.Though Scents-A-Lot is still in its early days, Mr Trott feels his opening weekend went well.“So far it’s been pretty good. On Saturday was my busiest day,” he said.“This location is ideal, right on the street side. We have the eyes of people going to town and out west. I love this location.”Mr Trott has high expectations of his new shop as he is looking to open other locations, with his eyes on Hamilton.“I want to see how this goes first and then try to find somewhere right in the city so people can come out during their lunch hour,” he said.Scents-A-Lot is located at 2 Lover’s Lane. Hours are 10am — 7pm, Monday through Saturday. For more information contact 238-3360 or e-mail scentsalotbda@gmail.com.
