The latest craze to hit the internet comes to the City of Hamilton this weekend, thanks to local hip-hop dancer Eston Rawlins. The 22-year-old wants residents and tourists to take part in the Harlem Shake on the City Hall steps at 2.30pm on Sunday.Like many others, Mr Rawlins stumbled upon various video clips of people doing the dance on YouTube and was immediately intrigued. He hosted his own small party of friends and attempted his first Harlem Shake clip then. He posted it onto Facebook and watched it “spread pretty fast”.The dancer said he was hoping for scores of residents to join in on the fun this weekend, in a bid to promote the Island. Close to 25 people have already agreed to be there, including his brother Terrence Furqan who came up with the vision.“The more the merrier, because the bigger the group the better the outcome,” Mr Rawlins said.“If you get a lot of views on YouTube you can get noticed. It’s good publicity for the Island,” he said. The Harlem Shake is based on a dance created in 1981 by a Harlem resident called Al B.It evolved into the Harlem Shake and became popular after it was featured in music videos like ‘Let’s Get It’ by rapper Ghetto Dependent.
