Two more patients have fallen ill, and a ward of King Edward VII Memorial remains quarantined, due to an outbreak of gastroenteritis.Access to Gordon Ward is likely to be restricted through tomorrow at least, a Bermuda Hospitals Board spokeswoman said.Five staff members also show signs of the stomach bug, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.In total, 15 patients had fallen ill by yesterday, with seven recovered.The bug also hit 14 employees — eight of whom were no longer showing symptoms.“Gastroenteritis can be caused by many different organisms, but samples to date have tested negative for many of the common causes,” the spokeswoman said.Sick patients are in isolation, and visitors and staff must don protective clothing before entering, which is discarded after leaving the room.Visits, new admissions and transfers are also being restricted at the ward.Useful website: www.bermudahospitals.bm.
