Women's team to play in World Cup Qualifiers
Terrylyn Paynter will lead the Bermuda women's national cricket team into the ICC Women's Championship to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from May 17 to 24.
Bermuda, along with Canada, USA, Argentina, and Brazil will be competing to qualify for the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers in 2011.
It is expected that the top two teams in the tournament will play a three-game series next year with the winners advancing to the Cup Qualifiers.
As part of the team's build-up, they will play in the Men's Evening League and the 17-and-Under League.
Bermuda will be without the injured Reuna Richardson and Shuntae Todd (educational commitments) but the Bermuda Cricket Board's Development Director, Arnold Manders, says he's pleased with the side assembled, noting the mix of youth and experience could help the side go a long way in the qualifiers.
"This is an experienced team with some new young faces – Jenay Edness, Akeyla Furbert, Rachael Smith, Precious Smith and Zeita Bean," said Manders.
"The players have worked hard since November and they have all improved considerably. If they play to their potential then I am confident they will be competitive."
President of the BCB, Reggie Pearman added: "I am pleased to see that the women's team has bounced back since the World Cup Qualifier last year and that they have been busy preparing for the upcoming championship.
"We're thankful for the support of BF&M, the team's official sponsors and the Board's official travel insurance provider.
"The women's team will be competing in the Men's Evening League and the BF&M 17 and Under League. I know there are several new faces in the team and I look forward to watching their performances develop."
