December 18, 2012Dear SirThere is a quiet dignity in town, which I think has come about by three things.One, there must be many people who are very disappointed and are in shock today and shock often renders one to a kind of numbness which is Nature’s way of protecting you from a thoughtless, unwise move.Secondly, that there is a kind of relief that it has been finalised, so we can now move onto the urgent matters at hand, and there are many.Thirdly, that it was just the right thing to do and happen, as we were dangerously close to the cliff, but let’s not forget the Bermudian character: smart, intuitive and practical. I have always said “You would have to get up very early in the morning to put something over on a Bermudian.”The man in the street knew it was time for a change and acted accordingly, they saw a decent genuine man who wanted to lead them and so they did the right thing. Well done Bermuda, there will be no regrets in time, and it will take time. We must all be patient, and we must all be part of the recovery.It can be done, gather all the best brains on this Island and sit them down together, regardless of party, called it ‘brains trust ‘, an alliance to serve the people, not party, not themselves, not each other, but just for the betterment of the whole, this lovely little Island.DIANA WILLIAMS
