Chelsea boss Villas-Boas under the microscope

I don’t really know what has gone on in the big picture of this whole CONCACAF situation but if the allegations prove to be true and evidence is brought forward that backs the claims against Jack Warner, then it was the right thing for him to stand down. With Mohammed Bin Hamann, who allegedly offered $40,000 in cash to Caribbean Football Union countries, in the spotlight now, we should have his case held first and then we can go from there. But remember, you are innocent until proven guilty.Chelsea have a new manager in Andre Villas-Boas and it will be interesting to see how he makes out. Managers need time and he will need to be given his chance to prove that he is worthy to coach the club.He faces a tough task, finding the right blend to play his type of game. He is coming from Porto who play in a completely different league and he is going to be judged by his performances in the Premier League. The coaching post at Chelsea is a difficult one. Carlo Ancelotti went from winning the ‘double’ to being fired and I think it will be about Villas-Boas’ success. If he doesn’t meet the club’s demands, it will be goodbye.Chelsea have ‘old’ players and the club need a makeover. But Villas was there when Jose Mourinho was at the helm and he should have a good feel for what goes on at Stamford Bridge. But it won’t be easy, the buck stops with him.The initial transfer market has suggested that a lot of teams will be looking to challenge Premier title holders Manchester United, but it won’t be easy to dethrone them . . . the signing of Ashley Young this week has strengthed United. The titleholders have got a very good young player and he has matured a lot while at Aston Villa, and I hope he continues this at Old Trafford.Kevin Nolan moving to West Ham is also a good acquisition on our part because we need someone who will put their foot in and tackle, be willing to work and be ready for the cause. We need to get back to the Premier League as quickly as possible and this is a step in the right direction.New boss Sam Allardyce has come out and said that everywhere he goes he entertains, but he will have to show me this because he is going to the house that Bobby Moore and the boys built and no one entertained more than them. While the league hasn’t started yet there is enough football out there to keep the juices flowing for any football fan, from the Gold Cup to the Under-17 World Cup to the upcoming Women’s World Cup and Copa America. The Gold Cup final today should be very interesting. On one hand you have a US side that works as a team while Mexicans can played fantastic football and can beat any team on any given day.A lot of the young boys in the Under-17s are very impressive and it is pleasing to see that there are other countries out there, not just the traditional power houses making good accounts of themselves in the competition. The Mexicans are looking good, Paraguay are top of their group, and the most disappointing team so far are the Dutch who are struggling.People have to remember that regardless of the country you are from, the game is played on the field. When you see teams like Burkino Faso, countries that you might not have heard of, it’s pleasing to see and hopefully these countries can one day make the World Cup at the senior level.
