Saltus appoints first female headteacher
Claire Charlemagne has been appointed to be the new head of Saltus — the first time the school has appointed a woman as headteacher. In an announcement to parents this afternoon, the school said: “On behalf of the Saltus Board of Trustees we are very pleased to announce the appointment of Claire Charlemagne as our next Head of School effective September 1, 2013.“Claire has the added distinction of being the first female head of what has historically been an all boys’ school! Over the next several months, Claire will work closely with Ted Staunton to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for the student, faculty and parent communities.”Mrs Charlemagne has worked at Saltus family since 2002 when she relocated to Bermuda from the United Kingdom. She has progressed from Head of Modern Languages to Director of Studies to the post of Deputy Head (Academics) last September.“The Search Committee was privileged to have had the opportunity to meet with many outstanding educational leaders over the course of the search. We were able to attract individuals from around the world who had significant experience in leading fine independent schools.“The fact that we attracted so many excellent school leaders is, we believe, a direct reflection of the reputation of our school and our special community. While it was a delight to meet such fine candidates, the search committee was hugely impressed by Claire’s leadership skills, her commitment to community and to quality education for all students, her depth of experience in, and passion for, Saltus, and her strategic vision for our continued path to excellence.“In addition, and of critical importance to the committee, we already know that Claire is a wonderful fit with our Saltus community. She is a strong, but collaborative leader who will guide us through the implementation of our strategic plan with a firm and steady hand.“We are thrilled to have found the very best person within our School walls, and know that you will all look forward to working with Claire in the coming years as our Head of School.”
