Sims slips to 12th at Q-School
An impressive round of three-under-par 69 could not prevent Michael Sims from slipping down the leaderboard during yesterday’s penultimate round of the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School at the Lantana Golf Club in Texas, USA.Despite carding his best round to date in the 72-hole tournament, the Bermudian pro fell four places from eighth to 12th in the field to leave himself with a bit more work to do if he’s to advance to the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School.Sims’ round yesterday included five birdies and two bogeys to leave him with a three-round total of six- under -par 210 heading into the final 18 -holes.The eGolf Tour player birdied four of the opening nine holes to make the turn at three under. He then completed the back nine at even par after birdieing the par five, 13th and making bogey at the par four 17th.The past Bermuda Open winner still has a best scoring average of 2.67 at the par 3s where has yet to drop a single shot.Sims started yesterday’s penultimate round tied for eighth after entering the clubhouse at one-under-par 71 the day before.Only the top 18 qualifiers and ties in Texas will advance to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School following today’s final round at the 7,147-yard, par 72 Lantana Golf Club course.Australian Daniel Nisbet (199) currently leads the field in Texas by seven shots over nearest rival and son-of-the-soil Robert Lopez (206).The first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School is currently being played at six different venues.Sims is one of the top 20 eGolf Professional Tour members on the member earnings money list whose $4,500 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament entry fee was paid for by eGolf.He managed six top ten showings on this year’s eGolf Professional Tour and earned $54,839 in prize money.Sims grabbed national attention last summer after firing an eGolf Tour record 12-under-par 59 in the second round of the Southern Open where he lost to 2007 British Amateur champion Drew Weaver in a playoff.
