Tourist fined, banned from the roads after for refusing breath test
A 43-year-old tourist found unconscious on Pitts Bay Road was fined $800 after he refused to take the alco-analyser test.Officers responding to a single-vehicle accident, discovered Todd Sparling lying next to a rented livery cycle on the Pembroke road, at 2am on Saturday.He was taken to the Emergency Ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his arm, and released into police custody.In Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Sparling denied a charge that he had care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol.However he admitted refusing to take the alco-analyser test.Sparling told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he struck his head in the accident and really had no memory of anything “after he put his helmet on to ride home”.Mr Warner fined him $800 and banned him from driving vehicles in Bermuda for a year.
