Man in ICU after falling while getting avocados
A man was today in intensive care after falling out of a tree trying to get avocados.At 6.15pm on Friday, police were called to a report of a man being injured falling out of a tree.A spokesman said: “It appears that the victim, a 57-year-old Pembroke man, was attempting to collect avocado pears out of an avocado tree in the Angle Street, Pembroke, area when he fell to the ground.“The Pembroke man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and at last check was recovering in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition.A woman was injured when she was hit by a motorcyclist trying to get away from the police.Last Saturday at 3.45am, police were patrolling in Hamilton and tried to stop the male rider of a bike on Front Street.A Police spokesman said: “However the rider accelerated away. In his attempt to elude pursuing officers, the male rider later collided with a female pedestrian on Court Street.“As a result the victim, a 57-year-old Paget woman, sustained a leg injury and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. The motorcycle involved was subsequently located and impounded.“Inquiries into this incident are ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information regarding the rider of a white motorcycle BR 599 early Saturday morning is encouraged to contact the main police number on 295-0011.”Police also said that an 18-year-old Sandys man remained in critical condition today in the Intensive Care Unit and renewed their appeal for witnesses.The accident happened at 5pm on Sunday on South Road, in Southampton, near the junction with Church Road.Any witnesses are encouraged to contact Pc Gavin Richardson on 295-0011.
