If you received a message from the FBI saying your computer has been used to violate copyright laws and download pornography, you may be a victim of a new computer virus making its way around.Tech experts in Bermuda are warning residents about the scam called the “FBI Moneypak virus”.This kind of virus is called ‘ransomware’ because it locks your up computer and holds it for ransom. To unlock the machine, the message says you have to pay a fine using a prepaid money card service. But even if you send the $200 as instructed, your computer will not be unlocked. The scammers just walk away with your money.Police say you should never pay any money or give out personal information of any kind to someone you don’t know.To get your computer up and running, most likely you will need to take it to a repair shop.Without a solid idea on how the virus is being spread, it’s hard to say what to avoid. But it’s important to have the latest antivirus software installed.
