Land tax flip-flop is slap in the face
August 13, 2012Dear Sir,Seniors hit once again! Are we being punished because we are getting old? I hope everyone realises that they too will age one day.The land tax flip-flop is a real disaster for me and anyone who lives on Harbour Road. If my property was inland I would certainly not have an ARV of $96,000.I do not work and I am sure that no one would hire me as I am over 70 years old.I do have an income CD but with the interest rate so low it will not go very far.I cannot even afford to insure my home and contents as the rates are so high.Doctors now charge $12 to fax a generic prescription to the pharmacy.Health insurance is out of sight — and if you do not have dental insurance you will have to go without.Food costs are way up as well, as all other costs that seniors have to contend with. The flip-flop on land taxes for seniors is a slap in the face for us all.We seniors will have to do without as we did years ago — the only difficulty is that we have been spoiled — we are unable to sell our homes, unable to keep them repaired. It certainly is a sad state of affairs, to work your whole life to have a little something for a rainy day and not be able to enjoy our last years in comfort.SENIORPaget
