Fake cash warning
Police are again warning the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency after a fake $100 bill was found.According to a spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit, the most recent forged bill carried the serial number D/I 019625.“Business owners, vendors and individuals alike are advised to be vigilant regarding this matter and take note of the individual or individuals passing these notes,” the spokesman said.“The public is encouraged to check for incorporated security features of genuine currency, such as paper quality and embedded watermarks.”Anyone with any information about incidents in which fake cash is being circulated is asked to contact the financial crime unit at 295-0011, and warned that it is an offence to pass along, possess or produce counterfeit currency.Such offences can carry a prison sentence of up to five years.Police are also investigating reports of a fracas which took place in the midst of the Non-Mariners event on Sunday.Officers are seeking witnesses to an incident involving people on-board the MV Elizabeth and others on jet skis.Anyone who may have seen the altercation is asked to contact Marine Police at 295-0011 or the confidential CrimeStoppers hotline at 800-8477.
