WEYMOUTH, UK - Bermuda sailors Jesse and Zander Kirkland endured a baptism of fire during today’s opening races in the 49er skiff in Weymouth Bay.After two races sailed in shifty 12-15 knot breezes the Olympic siblings are anchored at the bottom of the 20-boat fleet. The Kirklands posted a DNF (did not finish) in the first race after their sail collapsed at the bottom of the course and 19th in the second after failing to capitalise on a clean start at the line.“Obviously it was a real difficult day and a tough way to start an Olympic event,” said creww Zander. “But it’s nice to get the first day over with and tomorrow is another day.”
