Governor mugging suspects released from inquiry

Both men arrested over the London mugging that left Governor George Fergusson blind in one eye have been released from the police inquiry.The Metropolitan Police in London issued an update on the investigation over the weekend.Mr Fergusson, 56, was assaulted and robbed of £50 in broad daylight in Margravine Cemetery and Park in Hammersmith on April 20.He made his own way to New Charing Cross Hospital, and was later transferred to the Western Eye Hospital, but it was too late to save the sight in his left eye.A 29-year-old man was arrested on April 22 on suspicion of robbery. A 31-year-old man was arrested on May 14, also on suspicion of robbery.Both were bailed pending further inquiries.The younger suspect was released from the inquiry with no further action on June 7.Giving an update over the weekend, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said of the 31-year-old suspect: “He was bailed to return on a date in early July. However, bail has now been cancelled.”
